Some funny stuff

Matthew has been cracking me up lately with all his little words, sentences, and thought processes that he expresses. I had to write these down before my mind forgets them. Here's a good one...

We were at HEB the other day, and the checker gave Matt an HEBuddy buck (which you insert into one of those claw-type machines to retrieve a sticker) and he was ecstatic. He told the checker thank you and couldn't hardly wait for our groceries to be bagged so he could go get his sticker.

Matt: "I wanna GO Mommy! I want to get a sticker!"
Me: "I know, we're almost done."
Groceries are bagged and I now have my receipt in hand and we start rolling toward the door.
Matt: (grinning & excited) "I'm gonna get a sticker, Mommy!"
Me: "Yes, you are! But remember, on this machine it only gives you ONE chance so try not to push the button right away or you won't have a chance to get a sticker."
Matt: (in thoughtful silence)
We approach the claw machine and he totally balks.
Matt: "NO MOMMY!!!! I don't want to!!! No!!!" (little fists shaking in anger)
Me: "What? Why not? You just said you wanted to! Do you want Mommy to get it for you?"
Matt: "No, no, no!!!! I don't want to!!!!"
Me: "Okay, then. Let's go to the car."
We roll out into the parking lot and his rage ceases. It's SO unlike him to act like that.
Matt: "I wanna go to the HEB on 2222 where I get more than one chance to get a sticker."
Me: (suppressing laughter) "Oh....okay. We'll save your buddy buck then."

So, he was totally smart and knew that rather than wasting his buddy buck on a machine where he only got one chance he'd rather wait and take it to the other grocery store where you get infinite chances and the odds of getting a sticker was a sure thing. Too funny.

Another one: We were at the park with Ava the other day and the kids were having fun sliding.
Ava: "Matthew, slide on your tummy like this!!!"
Matt: "Oh, I can't 'cuz I got a baby in my tummy." (patting his tummy with both hands)
HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!

We were walking from the parking lot to his preschool a couple weeks ago and we saw a neat line of fluorescent green cones. Matt asked me why they were green. Before I could answer he said, "Oh, I think it's because they haven't turned red yet." Like the cones still needed to ripen. Ha!

Then, last night we were putting Matt to bed. He really has not been wanting Steven to put him to bed or even to carry him into his room. He whines and says, "I want Mommy carry you!!!" and squirms to get out of Steven's arms. Well, last night amidst struggles Steven carted Matt into this room with me closely following behind. I finally took him and told him that Daddy & I were going to both put him to bed. He said, "No! Daddy go away" and pointed to the door. Poor Steven. Then, like every night, I asked him who he wanted to pray for and he said, "Daddy." Steven heard and giggled.

I think that's all the good stories I can recall. Good thing is that he makes more everyday. Hurricane Ike has left us with not even a drop of rain so far, but a few wind gusts, cloud cover, and a bit cooler temperatures. Too all you friends and family out there who have lost power, I pray you get it back soon! Good thing for cell phones and laptops, eh?
