Superman was here...

...but he can't get down from the counter.

11 months

Young master Johnathan is approaching his first birthday, and I am in complete denial.  My baby is getting big!  He continues to be a pure joy, and is happy 99% of the time.  He has mastered the art of crawling, and he propels himself any and everywhere he wants to go.  He will crawl the fastest and is the most satisfied with himself either getting to me or into his brothers' room.  In Matt & Will's room, he usually heads straight for the drum set.  He'll pick up a drum stick and start beating away.  He's not even phased by the ear-piercing volume and ferocity with which Will beats those drums.  He will stand right next to him and tap away with his drum stick.
He is still a really good eater and will eat most of what I put in front of him.  I made some lasagna not long ago, and he went to town on it.  He gobbled up the leftovers for days after that too.  He loves fruit, cheese, pasta, my greek yogurt, and meatballs.  What is truly annoying about his eating habits though is he will rake his arm across his tray in one quick, swiping motion sending food flying off his tray and onto the floor.  So naughty.  He does this when he is either done or he is dissatisfied with what is in front of him.  Or he will flap both arms up and down slapping his tray, which has the same food flying on the floor effect.  The best though is his excited kicking legs that thrash about while he waits for me to prep his food.  He now has 4 teeth: 2 on top, 2 on bottom.
He has learned how to pull up on pretty much any and everything.  He likes to stand on his tippy toes, which is very much like myself.  He's getting more solid on his feet, but is nowhere near walking.  I'm good with that.  He does like to push around the little kid chairs we have.  And, he is really good at pushing things around on his knees, like the old push car, Matt & Will's cars and trucks, and even the vacuum cleaner.
He is, however, fully into the naughty business.  Steven says that his name now is JohnnyNO.  He has figured out what things are no no's, and he visits them every single day.  He's still pushing the Playstation power button on and off, he pulls on the floor lamp, he gets into kitchen things, he's discovered he can pull down the board games, he'll dump out the Uno cards, he'll unzip the Bananagrams pouch and eat the tiles, and he'll pull down all the library books and magazines and fold up the pages.  And so, the cabinet locks have made their third appearance.  This guy reminds me more of Matthew who loved to pull everything out and open every cabinet.  To say he is busy would almost be an understatement.  This kid has things to do.
He teamed up with Will recently, and together they pulled out all the bath toys from under the sink.  The beginnings of a very naughty team I'm afraid.
Will loves his baby brother and can sometimes be a little suffocating.  Poor Johnny will be crawling somewhere, and along comes Will either pulling on one of his little scooting feet or plain steamrolling him.  J gets so frustrated.
Everywhere we go this boy is the life of the party.  He smiles adoringly at anyone who will glance his way, and will full on belly laugh if you engage with him in the tiniest way.  You would think he's starving for attention, but that's not the case.  I drop him off at the gym and at church and people ask me if he is always this happy?  Well, yes.  Most of the time.  He's a very content kid and is very entertained with all that is going on here.  Matt & Will are a lot to take in.
He loves to clap just like Will did at the same age.  Even at weird times...like in the morning when I nurse him we will switch sides, and in the transition he will sit up and clap.  It's hilarious.  His favorite, though, is peek-boo.  He can't get enough of it, and it is the most fun game he's ever played by the look of sheer joy on his face.  When I buckle him in the carseat he will pull down the shade (you have to say, "Where's Johnny??")and he will start to giggle and then pull it up and just laugh.  And then when I have him all wrapped up in his hooded towel after he gets out of the bath he will pull the towel over his face and giggle.  He's always up for some peek-a-boo.  He busts it out at mealtimes too in the high chair.  He'll put both hands on top of his head, and if you copy what he's doing he thinks it's hysterical.  So, at least three times a day, I'm cleaning food out of his hair now.
Dressing him or changing his diaper is a time intensive wrestling match.  He rolls over immediately and tries to escape.  While giggling.  I can distract him for a few seconds with a toy or whatever else is within my reach like a lotion bottle or diaper cream tube.  And then he rolls over.  Since he was born he's watched Will race cars on the couch, and now Johnny is joining in the fun as well.  He will grab a car and put it on the couch, pull up, and roll it back and forth making raspberry sounds for his realistic car sound effects.  He does interrupt Will's races now, and he is none to happy about that.  J has ended up tumbling to the floor more than once due to Will shoving him.  Poor #3.
This boy is a delight.  I am soaking up all his sweet babyness while I can.  He's becoming more and more like a toddler everyday.

Easter

The Thursday before Easter we packed up, picked up Matt from school, and made the trek to Jacksonville.  We stopped at Sonic on the way for some treats, and Johnny got his first taste of a chocolate malt.  He was trying to get his hands on the whip cream.  It was a brief stay in Jville, but long enough for Tim & Steven to do some serious cleaning and sorting and purging in their parents' garages.  It was Johnny's first visit to Jville, and he was thrilled to be there.  We even squeezed in a visit with the Prewitt's.  As usual, Matt & Mason took off like long lost friends imagining and playing.  They were having fun with Grandpa's metal detector.
We made it back to Austin on Saturday in time to make the Easter Egg Hunt hosted by our church.  They had some fun little carnival type games and the ever popular inflatables up for the kids to enjoy.
The boys gathered a ridiculous amount of eggs.
Johnny wanted those eggs.  He had a ball dumping them out, examining them, and putting them back in the basket again.  And, repeat.  Matt of course examined the contents of all of his eggs and expressed his displeasure with the large amount of tattoos, stickers and plastic trinkets he received in lieu of candy.  Insert motherly speech about the true meaning of Easter.
Sunday we attended a glorious worship service at church; the music and message were outstanding. We then headed out to Bryan & Sarah's for the remainder of the day to fellowship with the family.
Look at those cousins!  And it was Johnathan's first Easter.  Awww.
Will had had enough of the photo session.  He didn't exactly cooperate.  But it made for some good shots.
This is probably my favorite.
Henry and Will were at it again.
With the threat of rain we decided to have the egg hunt indoors.  Eggs were stashed everywhere, upstairs and down.  The kids were chomping at the bit to get in there and find them all.  Matt told me to be sure and hide them really well.  "Make it really hard, Mom!!"
The two Hanks made good use of their time while waiting for us to hide them.  Actually, I think they were doing this while Bryan was laying the ground rules.  So you see how well they were paying attention.
Matt was rather serious.  They all had a great time tearing through the house, and some were more delighted with the money they found in their eggs than others.  There was a big trading session amongst them all after the hunt.  I think Mary Claire walked away with the most peanut butter eggs, Ava went for the jelly beans, Matt wanted money and Whopper eggs.  Henry & Will were already back on the trampoline at this point; they didn't care.
Sarah prepared a beautiful and delicious meal as always.  We were stuffed.  But not too stuffed to enjoy some lemon cake I made!  Yum.
I'm pretty sure Johnathan had a great first Easter.  He enjoyed church, lunch, a nap, playing with cousins, fighting over plastic eggs and shouting with glee with baby Lucy, yummy dinner and plenty of family members to adore him.
The non-stop fun was just too much for Will.  He gave it up on the drive back home.  We all had a blessed day.  I love Easter!

March Madness

Spring Break was a month ago, yes, I know.  Here's what we were up to.  That first weekend of the break my grandparents came in town for a visit.  We had not seen them since Will was a tiny baby, and it was great to get to introduce them to Johnathan.  The Moran family came over to join the reunion as well.  It really was wonderful to see them.  They are keeping themselves young and busy with travels and adventures.
Johnathan had a great time examining Pa-paw.  He was especially interested in his teeth and kept putting his hands in Pa-paw's mouth.  They bonded.
We met up with the Moran girls and Joy, Ava & Henry at Zilker park one beautiful day.  We rode the train, played on the playground and flew kites.  Somehow I didn't get pictures of any of that.  But, I did get this one of the boys bunched up together.  Will was drinking John's water and John was after a bag of chips over there by Matt.
After leaving the gym one morning the ducks were in the parking lot eager to make conversation.  Luckily for them, Will didn't finish his cup of goldfish so the boys fed them right there by the car.  Those are some friendly ducks.  They hardly moved an inch when I backed out.
The weather that week was lovely, so we tried to enjoy as much outdoor time as possible.  Matt rode infinite laps on the back patio.
Will had a ball in the sand box.
There was football played in the backyard.  Lots of tackling.
While Steven was home one afternoon we explored a creek running by Spicewood Springs.  The kids wanted their swimsuits on so they could splash around.  They are dying to get themselves into some water and go swimming.  Will mentions getting the backyard pool out at least once a week.  They had a big time exploring the creek.  We walked down and started poking around, and Steven found a frog.  Will was clinging to Steven's leg, and I love Matt standing there with his hands on his hips--looks just like my mother.  :)
Will quickly found a pair of sticks that he then carried with him, and they morphed from guns to lightsabers to swords to who-knows-what.
Matt found a particularly deep patch of water and camped out in it with a gigantic stick.  Those two had a blast.  Johnny finally got released from the Bjorn carrier and had fun crawling around and eating rocks.
And then there's poor Johnny when he was just learning how to pull up.  Was Will being playful?  Or protective of his cars?  Wasn't the first and nor will it be the last.
Then there's this sweet moment when I discovered the two of them cuddled up next to each other reading books.  Cuteness.
