Changing Table

There's something magical about the changing table...it gives way to smiles and coos and full-on baby conversations. Both boys have enjoyed the thing and get quite animated when resting on it. Must be something to do with having a clean bottom. And that's a chubby baby Matthew at 2 months old. Whoa. How many chins?

The Stats

William had his 2 month well visit to the doctor yesterday. He is going to be our wee little man! It's just such a different experience than what we experienced with Matt. Will is at the complete opposite end of the scale! He is now 10 lb. 5 oz. and 20.5 inches. That's how long Matt was when he was born! Will is 25%ile for weight, 10%ile for head circumference, and he's not even on the chart for height. Sounds like his Momma. But, he's healthy and growing and received a glowing report, praise the Lord. He is such a joy. His smiles and coos are SO sweet and frequent now--I love it. I just try to remember that when I'm up at 3 a.m.!

Rollin'

This little boy has already figured out how to roll over! He rolled over for the first time right after I snapped this picture last week. I thought it might be a fluke, but no--he's done it numerous times since. It's only from tummy to back, but I'm sure he'll master the reverse here shortly. I'm in trouble with this kid--he's going to be all over the place. Matt didn't roll over until he was 6 months. Too much heft! For the hostesses of the Sip & See...Matthew had a marvelous time stacking and sniffing your candles before I packaged them up. He was a little miffed at me for giving them away. He thought it was his own personal stash.

A Big Weekend

Look at those two handsome guys! William is 8 weeks old now, and the older he's getting the less he looks like Matthew to me. His eyes look like they're going to end up brown, which we're excited about since Steven & I both have brown eyes. We're thinking this one might end up looking more like us, but we'll see! He's adorable. Our weekend began out at Pioneer Farms on Friday morning. Joyce & I took the boys out there for a couple hours, and Matt enjoyed looking at the animals most of all. He did like watching the blacksmith making a knife, too. It's an area in northeast Austin that has old buildings and homes from the 1800's preserved in a way that the first Texas settlers lived. The volunteers that work there dress in period clothing. It was a beautiful day, and we had a nice time walking around. William slept through the whole thing. And here is Matt with a pbj face.Saturday morning my Dad & Ann drove down. The men headed out to go watch Zach and his band, The Sheeps, perform at a SXSW show. There was a bounce house there that I'm told was a big hit with all the kids. That afternoon I went to the Sip & See that was thrown by my sweet friends and family in honor of little William. I didn't take any pictures with my camera, but Alison promises me she'll give me all of hers. Ann sent me a copy of the group shot...so cute. It was so great to see all my friends and hang out with the ladies for a few hours. The food was not only beautiful but soooo delicious, and William enjoyed being passed from one set of loving arms to the next. He also scored lots of cute things. Thank you again to all my wonderful hostesses--you all know how to throw a party; thank you for all your hard work and for making it so special for William and I. You guys are the best!Later that evening, my dad treated us to some yummy barbecue that we enjoyed over at Tim & Pam's house. Thank you, Daddy! Here's Will taking a snooze on the bear rug.Later, Matt took over Pam's laptop while we watched the Texas game.Sunday after church I attended another sip & see where I got to meet Holly's new baby girl, Ashley. See is so tiny and cute! I watched in awe as Holly opened up pink outfit after pink outfit. I think Ashley has a larger wardrobe than I do and she's a month old! We've enjoyed having Steven's parents in town for over a week now. Matthew has thoroughly enjoyed playing with them. They left for home today and will be greatly missed. Hope everyone got out and took advantage of the great weather we had this weekend! With spring break over, we're headed back into a normal week around here. And I might...just might get back to the gym this week.

Cousins

Friday night we watched Caroline and Mary Claire while Bryan & Sarah went on a date. We thoroughly enjoyed having them visit, and Matthew was thrilled to have playmates. Those nieces of mine are so sweet. They both love to hold little William, and Caroline looks like a little mommy carrying him around. We had a great time. The highlight for me was tucking them in--I snuggled up between them and read them a book, and they both layed their little heads on me. Girls. So different...Look at William workin' it out! He's really been exercising those wee little limbs. And smiling! He gives a big open mouthed grin with an excited coo. It's too cute.

Running

The other morning we decided to head out to the Quarries to do some fishing and some duck feeding. Matthew was SO excited. I think Steven was, too, especially after he caught a few fish. Matt ran all over that place. The boy has some serious energy. He did stop long enough to feed the ducks the remainder of our stale tortillas. Matt took a few bites himself.I thought Matt would be really interested in helping Steven fish, but he mostly wanted to run around and explore the place. So I chased him around while wearing Will in the Baby Bjorn. That kid slept the whole time all snuggled up next to me. Matt ran up and down all 10 of the huge picnic tables, had a conversation with the Coke machine, asked a bajillion questions about where this door went and what that thing does, climbed up and down the rocks, and layed prone on the dock staring down at the water. He kept himself quite busy. Here's one of the baby bass that Steven caught. Matt wasn't too keen on touching it. I think that'll change eventually. We had a great morning, and Matt took an awesome nap that afternoon.
In other exciting news, William slept 6 hours straight last night!!! I almost feel rested today. Aaahhh.

Preschool Politics

Earlier this week was registration for Matt's preschool for the new year beginning in the fall. Maybe I'm naive or maybe just not paying attention, but there is some tight competition for teachers at this school. And I know it's not just this school--there's waiting lists a mile long for several preschools in this city. Anyway, a few weeks ago the school sent a letter home along with the new registration forms explaining that the year before they had parents lined up at the door at 7 a.m. to ensure that their child got in the desired teacher's classroom. And registration didn't start until 9 a.m. C'mon! It's preschool people--how much varied could the environment be from classroom to classroom for a 2 or 3 year old? One class sculpts clay while the other simply uses playdoh? I showed up shortly after 9 a.m. on registration day with both kids in tow and found myself #45 on the list, and Matt ended up in the second most desirable teacher's class. I could care less, and neither could Matt obviously. I just want him to have the social interaction and learn what a structured classroom is all about and learn how to LISTEN. We've really been working on that lately. Anyway...I walked out of there laughing and thankful that Matt had a spot. Our week has been pretty normal I guess. The new normal that is, with a newborn and a testy 3 year old. I took both kids to Target the other day--it was my first time taking them both out with me by myself to such a place. It went rather well, thankfully. It's funny though; I put Matt in the front part of the cart and had Will in his car seat and placed him inside the cart. Matt turned around in a panic and said, "But Mommy where are we going to put our groceries and our things?" Hehehe.Look at this bright-eyed little boy! He loves to lay on the floor and stare out the window and just kick his little legs and work his little arms. And he just coos and coos. It's adorable.
Joyce, you're probably going to freak out at this picture--yes, that's William laying on the dining room table like we're going to eat him for breakfast. Steven put him up there several nights ago and he really likes gazing at the light fixture up above and kicking his legs. Matt found it hilarious.Speaking of Steven, his hours at work have changed and today is his first 12 hour shift. Isn't that crazy? Thankfully he only has one of those a week. We miss him. I think I'll leave you with a nice centerfold photo of the cat.
